CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Southern Utah University Thunderbird men's tennis team will be hosting Northern Arizona University on Saturday, March 7 in St. George, Utah. The T-Birds will then travel to Las Vegas to face UNLV on Sunday, March 8.
Last Time Out
The Thunderbirds last traveled to Oregon where they faced Portland State University and University of Portland.
Conor Tordoff competed against Portland State's Otto Holtari where he secured the only singles victory for the Thunderbirds 6-1, 6-4. Tordoff later paired with Juan Erro to secure a doubles victory against Portland 7-6.
The T-Birds ultimately fell to the Vikings 1-6.
During competition against the University of Portland, Nolan McCaig and Jake Williams fought a hard battle in doubles play where they lost the match 1-6.
The men fell to the University of Portland 0-7.
Opponent Preview: Northern Arizona University
Northern Arizona currently stands 5-7 overall and 0-1 in the Big Sky Conference. The Lumberjacks concluded the 2019 campaign 22-7 overall and 10-0 in the Big Sky. NAU currently holds the Big Sky Championship title.
The Thunderbirds last faced the Lumberjacks in 2019 where they fell 2-5.
In singles play, Keonho Shin defeated NAU's Facundo Tumosa 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Alumni athlete Remus Cope secured the second and final T-Bird win over the Lumberjacks in singles play 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Opponent Preview: UNLV
UNLV currently holds a 10-1 record overall. In 2019, the Rebels closed the season 13-9 overall and 2-5 in the Mountain West Conference.
The two teams last faced each other in 2017 where the Thunderbirds fell 0-7.
Tordoff competed in singles where he was ultimately downed by UNLV's Alexander Cozbinov 6-4, 6-0.
