ST. GEORGE, Utah -- The Southern Utah University men's tennis team defeated the University of Idaho Vandals 6-1 on Sunday afternoon in St. George as their last home match of the season. This win clinches a spot for the Thunderbirds in the Big Sky Conference Championship for the second year in a row. SUU will head to Phoenix, Arizona on April 25 for the start of the tournament. 

During the doubles competition, Conor Tordoff and Jonathan Morales had the first win of the day against Guilherme Scarpelli and Esteban Santibanez 6-3 on court two.

Keonho Shin and Remus Cope won the doubles point for the Thunderbirds with victory over their Idaho opponents on court three.

Salvador Mijares and Agustin Tamagnone finished in the No. 1 spot after losing to Carlos Longhi Neto and Lucas Coutinho to conclude the doubles competition.

In singles play, Mijares topped Esteban Santibanez on court one 6-3, 6-1, putting the T-Birds up 2-0.

The Vandals claimed the point on court two, making the score 2-1.

Tamagnone won his match against Guilherme Scarpelli 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot, continuing his singles record in that position at 4-3.

Cope and Shin had successful mornings on court four and five, moving the T-Birds up 5-1 in the match.

Juan Erro concluded SUU's time in St. George with a win over Peter Shin 6-1, 6-2 on court six.

The Thunderbirds are set to face the Montana State Bobcats in Bozeman Montana on April 19 at 1 p.m.
