CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Southern Utah women's tennis team is set to hold their second home match of the season against the Weber State Wildcats on April 5, followed by a road match in Flagstaff against Northern Arizona University on April 7.
Last Time Out
The Thunderbirds continued their monumental season with two big wins over the University of Montana and Montana State.
Senior Charity Sagiao won both of her singles matches in the No. 3 spot against UM's Bianca Bostrom and Montana State's Linnea Fristam. Along with Jessica Stefan, Sagiao was able to win the final match during the doubles competition against Montana State, putting them ahead 1-0.
State of the T-Birds
After a big weekend in Montana, the Thunderbirds continue their nine match winning streak. They have had a very successful weekend and are currently second in the Big Sky rankings, one spot behind the University of Idaho.
Opponent Preview: Weber State University (11-6, 4-1 BSC)
This season, head coach Brad Ferreira leads the nine women roster after taking over the program three years ago. The Wildcats finished 11-14 overall and 5-6 in the Big Sky during their 2017-18 season.
This season, the Wildcats have seen Big Sky wins over Portland State, Eastern Washington, Sacramento State and Northern Colorado. Weber's first loss of the season was back in February against Big Sky opponent, the University of Idaho. The Wildcats fell to UI 2-5 on their home courts.
SUU met WSU last season which resulted in a win for the Wildcats 5-2. Since then, both schools have see drastic changes to their roster.
The Thunderbirds will compete against the Wildcats on April 5 at 1 p.m. in St. George.
Opponent Preview: Northern Arizona University (7-8, 3-1 BSC)
The NAU Lumberjacks are coming off of a double-header against Portland State and the University of Texas at El Paso, both of which the Jacks won in shutouts.
Leading the Jacks in the singles competition, Chiara Tomasetti has 14 wins and 0 losses on court one. Adriana Sosnowska continues her season 6-2 in the No. 3 position during singles. Together, the partners are 9-5 on court one for doubles play this season.
SUU will face NAU on April 7 at 2 p.m. in Flagstaff, Arizona.
