CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Southern Utah University Thunderbirds have been matched up against UC Riverside and will be competing against the team on Saturday, February 1 in Las Vegas at 2:30 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Thunderbirds last competed in a three match weekend where they defeated Colorado State University Pueblo 7-0 and Metropolitan State University of Denver 4-3. The Thunderbirds later fell to Air Force 3-4.
In competition against CSU Pueblo, Nolan McCaig and Conor Tordoff defeated their opponents in doubles play 6-4. Nicholas Sepulveda and Jake Williams also competed in doubles competition where they finished victorious 6-2. Keonho Shin and Juan Erro locked in the Thunderbird win in doubles play topping CSU Pueblo 6-4.
The T-Birds fought against MSU Denver trailing the Roadrunners 0-3 at the beginning of play. Later in the match, several athletes rose to the occasion to win the match 4-3.
Williams aided in the win against MSU Denver in singles play where he claimed the victory 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Erro also contributed to the hard fought battle against MSU Denver with a singles win 6-3, 7-5.
Opponent Preview
The UC Riverside men's tennis team currently sits 4-2 overall in spring competition. In 2019, the team finished 20-16 overall and 1-4 in the Big West Conference.
The T-Birds last faced UC Riverside in 2019 where they claimed the victory 5-2. During competition, the Thunderbirds swept doubles play. In singles matches, Erro defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-2. Shin also finished ahead of singles competition 5-7, 7-6, 6-4.
