CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah volleyball team and head coach Kacey Nady have announced the addition of Donovan Martinez as an assistant coach to the 2021 staff.
Martinez comes to Cedar City from just down the road in St. George where he was the faculty advisor for the boys volleyball program and head coach of the sophomore girls volleyball program at Snow Canyon High School. The boys volleyball program at Snow Canyon consists of athletes from seven different high schools and under Martinez's leadership, they have won four gold medals and two silver medals in various AAU tournaments. Martinez was also named a recipient of the 2020 AVCA Diversity Award.
Martinez also spends his summers working at various Division I summer camps including BYU, Iowa State, Nebraska, and Dixie State.
Prior to working at Snow Canyon, Martinez was a volunteer assistant coach for the T-Bird volleyball program under then-head coach Debby Baker during the 2014 season. His responsibilities during his first stint as a T-Bird included planning practices, scouting opponents, making travel arrangements, and running Southern Utah's summer camps.
Martinez has also spent time in Hawaii coaching girls volleyball for Jammers/Quicksets Volleyball Club, 'Iolani School, and Kaimuki High School.
Martinez graduated from the University of Hawaii-Manoa in 2014 with a Bachelors of Education in Elementary and SPED.
