CEDAR CITY, Utah — Southern Utah volleyball hosted its first glow-in-the-dark volleyball tournament of the year, drawing a full 12-team field and raising support for the program.
The tournament reached maximum capacity, allowing each team to play an equal number of games in a balanced format. For a first-year event in Cedar City, the strong turnout exceeded expectations.
"We had the maximum amount of teams that we could have in the tournament, which was a great start for our first year. Jensen said. I am excited to take that momentum and make it even bigger next year."
The event crowned the first-, second-, and third-place finishers, with prizes awarded to the top teams. With the help of sponsors, first- and second-place teams received hoodies and T-shirts. All participants were given tournament T-shirts and glow sticks, contributing to the event's neon theme atmosphere.
The glow tournament marked the program's second fundraiser of the year. Proceeds will help cover travel expenses, equipment costs, and other operational needs for Southern Utah volleyball.
In addition to raising funds, the event gave Thunderbirds student-athletes an opportunity to serve the community while gaining experience working and officiating the tournament.
With positive feedback and a full bracket in its debut year, the program plans to continue the glow tournament and build it into a tradition in Cedar City as Southern Utah volleyball continues to grow its presence in the community.
Head Coach Danielle Jensen Said
"Thank you to our sponsors and everyone that helped put this tournament together. Also, thank you to the community for supporting the fundraiser. We are hoping that next year we can build from this and create new traditions at Southern Utah University."
