LEXINGTON, Ky. - The United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) have announced their 2021-2022 Team Academic Awards, and the Southern Utah University volleyball team was one of 43 programs in the country to be awarded a Team Academic Award, in addition to earning Honor Roll distinction.

"This is an incredible achievement by our program," said SUU Head Coach Kacey Nady. "We have emphasized the importance of excelling in the classroom within our program, and this achievement is a testament to how hard our players have worked both on and off the court."

The Team Academic Award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 or above on a 4.0 scale. The Honor Roll distinction that the Thunderbirds were awarded is an elite club that represents the top 20 percent of team GPAs in Division I volleyball. 

This is the sixth time that SUU volleyball has been honored with a Team Academic Award by the USMC/AVCA and second consecutive year that the Thunderbirds have achieved the accomplishment.
