SUU Volleyball Holds First Practice

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah University volleyball team began practice Tuesday ahead of the start of the 2022 fall season. The Thunderbirds are set to kick off the season against Mountain West foe San Jose State on Friday, August 26, at a tournament hosted by Weber State. Southern Utah's home opener is scheduled for September 3 against Cal State Fullerton.

"We've been waiting for this day for a while, and it was a great first day of the 2022 season," said SUU Head Coach Kacey Nady. "I'm really proud of the work that our players have put in throughout the offseason, and our program is prepared to grind every day for the next two and a half weeks as we get ready for our first match."

The 2022 season will mark Nady's second at the helm of the Southern Utah volleyball program, and she returns half of her roster from 2021, in addition to adding four solid newcomers through recruiting.

A challenging schedule awaits SUU this fall, as they face a tough non-conference slate prior to beginning conference play in their inaugural season as a member of the Western Athletic Conference.

Southern Utah will have 17 days total to prepare for the opening weekend, where they will play three contests in two days at the Weber State Tournament, beginning on August 26. The Thunderbirds will have 10 non-conference matches in total before playing their first conference match against Cal Baptist on September 22.
