LEXINGTON, Ky. - The United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the 1,349 collegiate and high school teams that earned the 2023 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award, and the Southern Utah University women's volleyball team was honored with a Team Academic Award along with a prestigious Honor Roll distinction.
"Being recognized on the AVCA and U.S. Marines Academic Honor Roll is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our student-athletes at Southern Utah," said SUU Head Coach Kacey Nady. "It reflects not only their commitment to excellence on the volleyball court, but also their unwavering pursuit of academic achievement. I couldn't be prouder of this team's remarkable balance between sport and studies, and it's an honor to coach such outstanding individuals."
The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. The Honor Roll distinction the Thunderbirds earned is for teams who rank in the top 20 percent of team GPAs in Division I volleyball.
This is the seventh time that Southern Utah has been honored with a Team Academic Award by the USMC/AVCA and the third straight year the T-Birds have earned the recognition.
