CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah University track & field program will compete in the Western Athletic Conference Championships this Monday, Feb. 19, and Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The T-Birds will be fighting for a conference title as the WAC pre-championship poll picked the men's team to finish second and the women's team to finish fourth.

Meet Info
The meet will take place at the Albuquerque Convention Center in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. Competition will kick off with the women's pentathlon on Monday at 8:00 a.m. MT with the women's 4x400m relay wrapping things up on Tuesday at 4:25 p.m. MT. Awards will be presented to the winning athletes at 4:45 p.m. MT.
WAC Pre-Championship Coaches Poll
On Thursday, the Western Athletic Conference released its Pre-Championship Track & Field Coaches Poll. SUU is projected to finish second in the men's poll behind seven-time defending champion, Grand Canyon, while the women's team was picked to finish fourth behind Grand Canyon, Utah Valley, and UT Arlington.

SUU In the National Rankings
In the latest DI Men's Indoor Track & Field Regional Team Rankings, the Thunderbirds men's team checked in at sixth place in the Mountain Region, just behind powerhouse programs such as BYU, Northern Arizona, and Texas Tech.
Southern Utah also has four athletes in the top 50 of national rankings including Astley Davis in the triple jump (6th), Dylan Gibson in the 400-meters (21st), Joren McKeever in the high jump (30th), and Isaiah Labra in the 5000-meters (48th).
Last Time Out
Last weekend, both teams had record-setting performances at the Don Kirby Invitational and Husky Classic
At the Don Kirby Invitational, Dylan Gibson had an impressive performance in the 200m, placing second in the event and setting a brand-new school record of 21.07 seconds. Nelson Douglas and Jaedyn Carpenter also moved into fourth and fifth all-time respectively with times of 21.33 and 21.42 seconds.
In the 400m, Gibson broke another school record with a time of 46.28 seconds, also placing first in the event. Carpenter was close behind, finishing with 46.73 seconds, putting him second all-time.
The 'Birds also set a new school record in the 4x400m relay, with Gibson, Douglas, Noah Bringhurst, and Carpenter combining for a time of 3:08.36, shattering the old record by more than four seconds.
In the pole vault, Makenna Skoczylas improved her second-place school record with a jump of 12'06.75".
Shante Myrie completed the 200m with a time of 24.64 seconds, putting her in third all-time at SUU, while Savannah Nielson ran a 8.58 second time in the 60m hurdles to put her in second all-time at the event.
In the 3000m at the Husky Classic, the women's team was led by Madison DeBos and Jordyn Bartolomucci, who finished with times of 9:30.36 and 9:34.14, placing them fourth and sixth in school history respectively. Josii Johnson also posted high marks in the 800m, finishing with a 2:09.67 and putting her fourth all-time.
For the men's team, Isaiah Labra finished second in the mile run with a time of 3:58.50, setting a new PR and putting him fourth all-time at SUU. Hayden Harward also set a PR in the 3000m with a time of 8:09.71.
