PHOENIX, AZ -- SUU Women's Golf participated in their second tournament of the spring season, the GCU Invitational at the GCU Golf Course.
The team finished 20th overall, at +44 as a team.
New Mexico State won the tournament, shooting 18 under par as a team, with GCU coming in second at -13 and CSUF finishing third at -12.
Emma Bunch, from NMSU, won medalist, shooting 14 under for the tournament. Montana State's Scarlet Weidig came in second at -11.
" We figured some things out in the final round, which was good to see. You always want to end a tournament on a positive note, but we have to figure out how to put together multiple quality rounds in a tournament," said Head Coach Tara Oglesby
Tanyatorn Excel Thalangkarn shot an impressive five under par in the final round, propelling her to a T19 finish at -1 on the tournament. Despite having two bogeys in the final round, Thalangkarn poured in five birdies and an eagle to shoot a 67.
The team struggled during the first day of competition, where they played 36 holes—shooting 312 and 307 to put them at +43 for the tournament. But an unreal final round will help them mightily in the golf rankings and moving forward this season. The team shot just one over par on the final day.
Ellie Olsen also had a fantastic final round, shooting just one over par with four birdies on the card, which helped her to the second-best finish on the team at +17, T96.
Tijana Jovicevic Kovacic had rounds of 75 and 75 to close the tournament at +17, T104.
Anais Guibal also had her best round on the final day, shooting just two over par 74 to aid her to a +18, T106 finish.
Cornelia Karlsson finished 116 at +24, and Reece Bandemer was 119 at +32.
