LEXINGTON, Kentucky — The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that over 1,400 collegiate and high school teams earned the 2024 AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT. Southern Utah not only earned this award but was also recognized on the AVCA Honor Roll.
Head Coach Kacey Nady Said
"Our student-athletes work just as hard off the court as they do on the court. Having an accumulative 3.69 GPA for the 2023-24 season is not an easy task, and I'm thankful our team has earned recognition. Finding success in the classroom that will segue to success after our young women graduate is a priority, and they do a fantastic job!"
The award, established in the 1992–93 academic year, recognizes volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale or at least 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. This honor underscores student-athletes' commitment to excelling both on the court and in the classroom.
The Honor Roll distinction highlights teams that rank in the top 20 percent of team GPAs in each Division. The Thunderbirds earned this distinction once again, showcasing exceptional academic performance.
This year marks the eighth time Southern Utah has received the Team Academic Award from the AVCA, a testament to the program's consistent dedication to academic excellence. Additionally, it is the fourth consecutive year the T-Birds have achieved this recognition, further solidifying their reputation for achievement in the classroom.
