CEDAR CITY, Utah -As Southern Utah prepares for an electrifying volleyball season, all eyes are on their powerhouse trio of opposite hitters. Charlotte Wilson, Molly McDermott, and Victoria Zibecchi bring youth, experience, and international flair to the court.
Opposite hitters are often regarded as the most versatile players on a volleyball team, excelling in offensive and defensive roles. Adaptability is key, as they must adjust their hitting strategy according to the opponent's blocking formation. This position demands the ability to make quick decisions on shot selection.
Coach Kacey Nady Said
"This season, I am excited to have three talented opposites, which is the deepest we have ever been. Molly brings experience and consistency, as this will be her fourth year in the program. Vicky recently won a national championship with her previous school and was instrumental in their success. Charlotte has one of the heaviest arms in the gym and is a threat offensively. They have all faced adversity to be where they are now, and I am looking forward to their opportunity to show their passion and resilience."
Molly McDermott
Molly McDermott is entering her senior season with Southern Utah, bringing a wealth of experience to the floor for the T-Birds. Last season, she appeared in 22 matches, finishing fourth on the team with 123 total kills. McDermott also ranked third on the team in blocks with 27 and second in service aces with 25. Her season highlights include a 14-kill performance against Marshall. Over her collegiate career, she has proven to be a versatile player, contributing significantly in digs and assists.

Charlotte Wilson
Charlotte Wilson had an impressive freshman season, appearing in all 26 matches for the Thunderbirds. She averaged 1.22 kills per set and recorded a season-high 13 kills against Seattle U. Before joining Southern Utah, Wilson was a standout at Lovejoy High School, where she scored 228 kills her senior season with a 36.2% kill percentage. Additionally, she totaled 40 blocks and 65 digs.

Victoria Zibecchi
Victoria Zibecchi joins Southern Utah as a transfer from Florida SouthWestern State College, where she led the Buccaneers to consecutive Junior College National Championships. Zibecchi averaged 3.10 kills per set and hit .306 as a sophomore, earning First Team All-Conference and All-Region honors. Her stellar performance at the National Tournament, including 53 kills with just two errors, highlights her ability to perform under pressure. Zibecchi's international experience and high-level play are expected to make a significant impact on the Thunderbirds' offense.
Zibecchi was also recently named to the CSC Academic All-America team for her work on the court and in the classroom last year.
With Wilson's promising sophomore campaign, McDermott's seasoned leadership, and Zibecchi's championship pedigree, Southern Utah's opposite hitters are set to be a formidable force this season.
