CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah University women's basketball team returned to the court for its first official practice on Monday, Sep. 22. With a talented but youthful roster, the squad will aim to build cohesion before an exciting start to this new era of Thunderbird basketball.

Head Coach Tracy Mason enters her eighth year at the helm, looking to make a final statement during the team's last year in the Western Athletic Conference. With three returning upper-classmen, five star sophomores, and an impressive slate of new recruits, the 2025-2026 season will act as a fresh start for the team of years to come.

Head Coach Tracy Mason Said:

"This is one of the most competitive, high-energy groups I've ever coached. Practice has been absolutely terrific. I tell everyone, 'If you're having a bad day, come watch our practice. They'll get you so pumped up.' I think this is a very motivated group and they're putting in the work to prepare for a successful season."

The Thunderbirds, fueled by fresh talent and enthusiasm, are poised for a thrilling final lap of the WAC in which they will play conference opponents not two, but three times.

In addition to a stacked conference schedule, Southern Utah will preview its move to the Big Sky Conference during preseason play by battling two future conference opponents: Eastern Washington University and the University of Idaho.

This action-packed 2025-2026 campaign marks the first time since the 2018-2019 season — Mason's first year as SUU's head coach — that the team will include only one senior.

With plenty of eligibility left on the team, the Thunderbirds will aim to tackle the WAC one last time as they open a promising new age of Southern Utah women's basketball.
