Drynova Is Summit League Player of the Week for Tennis

CEDAR CITY, Utah, March 25 ? Southern Utah's Kateryna Drynova has been named this week's Summit League Player of the Week for women's tennis after her performance at last week's league cluster in Tulsa, Okla.

Drynova, a freshman from Kiev, Ukraine, who prepped at Utah's Juab High School, went 3-1 in singles and 4-0 in doubles last week to help the team to the best start in SUU's NCAA Division I tennis history, as the team went 3-1 to improve to 8-3 overall on the season.

Playing at No. 2 singles Drynova defeated Centenary's Lindsy Ezell, IUPUI's Allison Thompson and Western Illinois' Kim Lennartsson with her only loss coming to cluster host Oral Roberts' Hayden Rush. In doubles she teamed with fellow freshman Kirrily Burden at No. 1 to go undefeated in the team's four matches.

The team's 3-1 weekend included a 4-1 win over IUPUI ? the Thunderbirds' first win over the Jaguars since 2001 ? and put the team in second place in the conference behind preseason favorite Oral Roberts.

Drynova's selection as The Summit League Player of the Week gives SUU consecutive honorees as Emmi Nelson-Bulloch received the recognition last week.
