More Career Marks Set as Thunderbirds Fall 53-76 to IUPUI

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Feb. 2 - Southern Utah's Anne Westwood Higbee recorded her 700th career rebound during the night while leading the Thunderbirds with 17 points, but it wasn't enough as SUU fell 76-53 to the IUPUI Jaguars on Monday.  The loss drops the T-Birds to 8-14 on the year with a 4-7 mark in conference, while IUPUI moves to 11-11 and 6-5 in The Summit League.

Higbee became only the third player in Southern Utah women's basketball history to record more than 1,000 points and 700 rebounds in her career with her 17-point, seven-rebound effort.  The senior is also on pace to finish in the top three of the history books in field goal percentage.

Higbee's 5-of-6 shooting led the Thunderbirds during the game, but it was a slow start and turnovers in the first half that put Southern Utah in a hole early.  IUPUI jumped out to a double-digit lead of 18-7 six minutes into the game and never relinquished the margin for the rest of the evening.

The Jaguars built a lead of as much as 21 in the first half (28-7) and took a lead of 36-18 into the break.

Southern Utah pulled to within 15 midway through the second half on a 3-point field goal by Kaila Goff, but that was as close as the home team would come as the Jaguars built the lead back into the 20's, eventually claiming the 76-53 victory at the final whistle.

"We just lacked intensity tonight," interim head coach Kit Janes said after the game.  "We just didn't prepare our girls well enough for this game."

IUPUI's Jernisha Cann led all scorers with 19 points and ten rebounds with Janna Eichelberger (17) and Julia Whitted (12) also pouring in double figures in points.

Southern Utah will only have one more game this week, beginning the first of three road contests for the Thunderbirds.  SUU will travel to UMKC on Saturday before making the trip to the Dakotas over the following weekend.
