Thunderbirds Bring Home Slew of WAC Postseason Awards

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Members of the Southern Utah women's basketball team earned a collection of honors when the 2025-26 Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Postseason Awards were announced on Tuesday, March 10.

Junior Ava Uhrich received a spot on the All-WAC First Team, sophomore Sierra Chambers and junior Brooklyn Fely slotted in on the All-WAC Second Team, and freshman Devyn Kiernan landed a bid to the All-WAC Freshman Team.

Head Coach Tracy Mason said:

"I think these ladies are extremely deserving of these awards. They've put in a lot of work since we set foot on the court in the summer. This is a team that was picked last in the preseason poll, and they've taken that personally every single day. They show up ready to compete and play like they have something to prove. I couldn't be more proud of this group and this team."

Ava Uhrich: All-WAC First Team

Uhrich's phenomenal season rightfully earned her a place among the WAC's greatest players. She has dominated the paint all year long, averaging a WAC-high 9.9 boards per game to go with an impressive 14.2 points per game.

Throughout the year, Uhrich has been one of the most accurate players in the conference. She shoots at a strong 46.6% rate from the field, second among WAC players averaging five or more field goals per game.

In seven separate games, she recorded 15 or more rebounds, and she has surpassed the 20-point mark in eight games. Her efforts have garnered WAC Player of the Week recognition a conference-high three times.

During a 77-68 win over UT Arlington on Jan. 29, Uhrich scored a career-high 30 points while shooting a fantastic 81.8% from the floor. Only a game prior, she recorded a career-high 18 rebounds, leading her team to a 62-49 victory over Utah Tech on Jan. 24.

A historic year for Uhrich places her not only on the All-WAC First Team, but also in the record books as one of the greatest players in Southern Utah history. She's recorded 297 rebounds, and if she can log three more in the postseason, she will be one of only two Thunderbirds to ever bring down over 300 rebounds in a single season. In addition, Uhrich's 425-point season places her 12th in program history.

Sierra Chambers: All-WAC Second Team

Piecing together a breakout sophomore season, Chambers has cemented herself as one of the WAC's youngest superstars. Ranking fifth in the conference in both scoring and assists, she averages 15.1 points and 3.8 assists per game. In a field of 12 players on the All-WAC First and Second Teams, she is one of only three underclassmen to receive a spot.

Sierra Chambers dribbles past a defenderChambers has developed a reputation as the conference's best at getting to the charity stripe. With 144 made free throws this year, she ranks first in the WAC and 22nd nationally. Before starting the conference season, Chambers went on a spree of 43-straight made free throws, including three games where she made 10 of 10 shots from the line.

Leading the WAC in minutes played, Chambers has been a remarkably consistent leader for the Thunderbirds. On Dec. 4, she scored a career-high 28 points, lifting Southern Utah to a 69-59 comeback victory over New Mexico State. On Jan. 10, she divvied up a career-high nine assists in a thrilling overtime loss to California Baptist.

With the postseason still in the picture to add to her totals, Chambers's 453-point season slots in at ninth in SUU's single-season record book.

Brooklyn Fely: All-WAC Second Team

In her first year with the Thunderbirds after transferring from Umpqua Community College, Fely has quickly become a critical component of Southern Utah's success. She ranks in the WAC's top 10 scorers with 12.7 points per game, while shooting at an incredible 47.8% rate from the field.

Fely has recorded 10 double-doubles, which currently ties Uhrich for second in the WAC. She has also surpassed 10 rebounds in 11 games this year.

Fely set an extraordinary Division I career-high of 31 points as she buoyed her team to an 85-70 road win against California Baptist on Feb. 12. In a critical 71-68 win over Abilene Christian on Jan. 31, Fely brought down a Division I career-high 17 rebounds.

In her 2025-26 campaign, Fely has earned WAC Player of the Week honors twice and WAC Newcomer of the Week honors four times. Her total of six weekly awards is more than any other player in the conference.

Devyn Kiernan: All-WAC Freshman Team

Since earning the starting spot in SUU's season opener, Kiernan has never looked back. As a true freshman, she's averaged 7.5 points per game and provides a valuable defensive presence for the Thunderbirds.

Devyn Kiernan shoots the ballKiernan has been astoundingly accurate from the perimeter, connecting on 40.7% of her attempts. She leads the team with 50 made triples, which places her sixth in the conference and second among freshmen.

With a career-high 22-point game, in which she totalled three blocks and two steals, Kiernan lifted her team to a momentous 85-80 overtime victory over Cal Poly on Nov. 21.

Kiernan is the only Southern Utah freshman in the past decade to start every regular-season game. As she continues to develop in the years to come, she will be a huge factor for Southern Utah.
