Mead, a multi-sport athlete, was named the 1968 SUU Athlete of the Year.  He was selected All-District VII and All-Conference in basketball in 1970 and scored a school record with 51 points against Westminster in 1970.  He was the SUU all-time leading scorer with a career all-time leading free throw attempts (473, made 401).
