During his years at SUU from 1943-55, Wood was captain of the basketball and baseball teams, co-captain of the football team and ICAC All-Conference in both football and basketball. He also was an NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American and SUSC MVP in basketball and Track and Field from 1953-54.
