Walterscheid was a football All-American in 1975 and 1976 as well as an Academic All-American.  He was named SUU's Athlete of the Year in football in 1975 and 1976.  He was the first SUU player to make an NFL team.  He played six years for the Chicago Bears and a year for the Buffalo Bills.
